Jill Emery makes history in Ireland

Posted on 21. Jun, 2007 by in News

June 21, 2007, Dublin, Ireland. A history accompanied the first professional women’s bout held in Ireland but that’s where the glitz ended. Having cut her teeth at such salubrious venues as a Club Med in Florida and a National Guard Armoury in Dorchester Massachusetts, Jill Emery recorded a comfortable points victory over London based Russian Angel McKenzie.

Emery dominated the fight from the start, landing with pretty much any punch she wished, before McKenzie managed to open a cut on Emery’s forehead in the sixth round. Having cleaned herself up. Emery hung on but little about the crowd’s muted response suggested the notion of women battering each other to a pulp will catch on in Dublin.

Jill Emery became the first ever winner of an Irish hosted professional female fight. Emery won by a referee’s score of 80-72 following eight rounds of action.
