Michael Kozlowski met the current mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg many times over the last few years in various Russian forums. But, this time the meeting between the Russian boxing coach and the mayor of the Capital City of the World happened in boxing territory – in the dressing room of the Brooklyn Masonic Temple where boxers and coaches prepared for the Daily News New York Golden Gloves quarter-finals. Trainer Michael Kozlowski was warming up his fighter, Jeremy Fiorentino, when the mayor entered the dressing room. Michael Bloomberg shook hands with every one in the dressing room. When he shook hands with Michael Kozlowski, Golden Gloves director and three time Golden Gloves Champion Brian Adams said: “This is our Russian boxing coach Mike!”
The Mayor of the City pondered for a second and then said to Michael Kozlowski: “I remember Russian twins in Golden Gloves…”
“Yes, they were my students, Khabir and Sabir Suleymanov,” replied boxing coach Mike. “Mr Mayor, I am surprised you still remember after so many years!”
“Yes, it was many years ago, but I remember…” answered one of the wealthiest men in the world with a smile.
“In honor of your great memory, lets get a picture together! said Michael Kozlowski.
“No problem!” answered the boss of New York City.
