On March 25th, 2010, history was made in Madison Square Garden. In the boxing Mecca of the World, Shemuel Pagan defeated Carlos Teron to win his fifth New York Daily News Golden Gloves Championship. Pagan became the second boxer in the history of the prestigious tournament to win five Championships.
The famous tournament is 83 years old, and the only other boxer to win the Golden Gloves five times was the great Mark Breland. Breland was the Olympic Champion of 1984 and later the Professional Welterweight Champion of the World.
“I am very glad to be part of this historical moment in New York boxing,” said Mike Kozlowski after Pagan was crowned Champion. “For many years I have trained Shem together with his father Robert Pagan, so this means a lot to me.”
This will be the last amateur fight for Pagan. Pagan is decorated USA Boxing Amateur. He was a USA Olympic boxing team member in 2008, the bronze medalist at the USA National Championships in 2007 and 2008, the USA National “under-19″ Champion of 2005, and is now the FIVE-TIME New York “Golden Gloves ” Champion.
Pagan is expected to have a great professional career and a future World Title.
